The Terra Reflux Still is a model of the reflux still which allows you to obtain a pure product of 96% + as well as flavored drinks- brandy, whisky, cognac, gin etc. The still is equipped with the LM system (liquid management) in which the whole operation is reduced to regulate the amount of fluid received a small brass valve located in the head. Adjusting the valve you can control the amount of reflux in the column.

It's basically the mini-still designed by Alex Bokakob, but with ~100cm of packing.  

This design is especially for those, who want their spirits to be full of flavor rather than sterile and aroma- free. It perfectly connects the world of pot-stills to the world of big reflux stills. It's great for whisky, brandy and fruit spirits. 

The column is made almost entirely from copper, the kettle is made from stainless steel. The total high of the Terra Reflux Still is ~180cm on 30l kettle. A kettle is equipped with one heating element with 2000W power. Power consumption during the process is ~2000W/ hour, power is matched for this specific diameter, however, you can add a second heating element or power regulator for adjusting the heating power (i.e for quicker heating-ip or heating dense liquids). The kettle has a 3/4 inch drain (with the threaded end cap) for easy cleaning after the process. The column height is 140cm, its diameter is 54mm. The whole still is packed with stainless scrubbers.

Cooling water is attached directly to the condenser at the top of the column (in the head) and then flows out of the system. The column can be cooled in a closed system. It can also be supported by a system which does not ensure a constant pressure (eg. hydrophore or with plenty of water users on one connection). Thanks to the open design there is no risk of explosion due to a pressure increase. The condenser does not pass any vapors, so there is no risk of leakage of the top, and there are no odors or fumes in the room. Water consumption is about 40-50 liters per hour (depending on the initial cold water temperature).

From one process you get about 3-3,5l of 96% pure ethanol from 27l of 13-14% mash. Mash is made from 8kg of sugar, 22l of water and one pack of turbo yeast. The whole fermentation process is described in the attached instructions.

The quality of high-proof products is so high, that you don't have to use carbon filters anymore. 

Copper is the traditional material used in commercial still construction for a variety of reasons: 

  1. Copper catalyzes the breakdown of esters and sulphuric compounds in the steam vapors.  These volatile compounds are produced during the fermentation process and are highly undesirable in the distilled spirit. 
  2. Copper avoids the production of ethyl carbamate (urethane) which is a toxic substance, possibly carcinogenic to humans, formed from cyanides.  Again these are nasty chemicals you don't want in beverage spirits.
  3. Copper is a great conductor of heat.  This allows for good natural reflux production in a still column as well as very efficient condensers.
  4. Copper improves the aroma of the final product.
