Large Diameter Buffer (219mm!) for our most efficient columns: Thor 76mm and Prime 108mm!

The buffer, installed between the boiler and the rectification column, is designed to accumulate alcohol at the beginning of the process and enrich the vapor with alcohol towards the end when its quantity decreases. It is used specifically for rectification purposes and is not installed for pot-still distillation (as it retains flavors from flavoring products). It is only used for producing neutral spirits.

Benefits of using the buffer:

  • Allows for a higher distillation rate, especially in the later stages of the process. Instead of processing low-concentration vapors from the boiler, the column operates more efficiently as the vapors are enriched with alcohol from the buffer accumulated at the beginning of the process.
  • By working with alcohol-rich vapors, the issue of stretching the theoretical plate height towards the end of the process is avoided, resulting in a better quality distillate.
  • The column operates at its maximum possible separation capacity.

The external diameter of the buffer is approximately 219mm. The standard height of the buffer is 35cm, but this value can be modified. In the case of significant height reduction, different pipe diameters can be used to ensure that the buffer capacity and important cross-sections are properly matched to the specific equipment.

Inside the buffer, there is a pipe filled with prism-shaped springs. Above it, there is a deflector that prevents the reflux from the column from directly entering the buffer, redirecting it into the buffer space. Once the buffer volume is exceeded, the reflux is continuously returned to the boiler through the prism-shaped springs and the overflow at the top of the inner pipe.

The buffer can have a 1/2" port with a thermometer for measuring the liquid temperature.

After the distillation process is completed, the buffer can be conveniently emptied through a 1/2" valve located at the bottom.

The buffer is attached to the tank using a Tri-Clamp 76mm or 104mm connection. The standard connection to the column is also a Tri-Clamp connection that fits the column. Gaskets are included in the set.
